Why I love the art of hair

I am passionate about customizing your haircut and/or colour to enhance your unique features, to work with your lifestyle, and capture your true essence with precision. I don’t believe that one size fits all with hair cutting or colouring. Artfully tailoring your hair to you is where creativity comes into play! You can bring in your vision and I will work my magic so you step out feeling aligned with your most authentic self. If you are unsure of what you’re looking for, I tend to get 10,000 ideas instantly based off of your features, so I’ve got you covered!

What I love most about doing hair is the opportunity to make people feel truly seen, heard, and valued - something that is increasingly rare in a world where genuine human connection often feels lost. Since starting my journey in 2008, my passion for the craft has only deepened, and I’m always excited to evolve and explore new ways to inspire my guests. With each visit, I love offering fresh options and recommendations, keeping their style dynamic and reflective of who they are. As both a lifelong learner and an educator since 2015, I find immense joy in mentoring stylists, from foundational techniques to advanced mastery. Watching others grow and thrive is what makes my heart full, and I’m deeply committed to empowering stylists to embrace their potential, especially in an industry that can sometimes feel daunting.  

In my studio, your time in the chair is all about you. Whether you want to unwind with an audiobook, meditate in silence, or share your thoughts in a “hairapy” session, I’m here to create a fully customized experience that allows you to relax, recharge, and feel your best.

At Violet Hill Studio, we offer more than just a haircut - it’s a customized and luxurious experience, crafted entirely around you. Led by Annah Petrauskas, a master stylist and educator with over 15 years of experience and formal training from world-renowned academies like Vidal Sassoon and Toni & Guy, this private, elegant downtown studio provides a calm and inviting space. Each appointment is exclusively by reservation, with a minimum of 60 minutes dedicated to you alone. Through expert consultations, we create a look that is intentionally tailored to your unique features, hair type, lifestyle, and personality, while offering personalized product recommendations using ORIBE hair care. 

From the moment you arrive, your experience is designed to soothe and uplift. Enjoy a therapeutic hair wash, scalp massage, and tailored atmosphere with custom music and sensory enrichments. Complimentary beverages and convenient underground parking add to the ease of your visit, and our commitment to starting and finishing appointments on time ensures your experience is as seamless as it is rejuvenating. At Violet Hill Studio, you’re not just a client - you’re at the center of a truly bespoke, one-of-a-kind service.

The Name

I wanted the name to be different, memorable and enigmatic. 

Violet Hill is a Coldplay song from my favorite album of theirs; Viva La Vida. Music is a big part of who I am as I have been writing piano music since I was a kid, and Coldplay has been my favorite group since 2000. The song title “Violet Hill” sounded different and catchy, and it comes from something that is meaningful to me. 

The Space

The space is my own cozy private studio, located within a collective business called District Studio’s. Envisioning the experience I wanted to create for my guests, it was important for me to offer a relaxing customized experience in a sensory friendly space. The music, natural light, absence of white noise, presence of plants and beautiful scents from the luxury haircare brand; ORIBE creates a sensory friendly, relaxing environment. 

The Décor

The vision I had for the space was for it to be modern with a warm feel. The geometric shapes sprinkled throughout the space represent my passion for precision and attention to detail when doing hair. The wood accents, pops of colour and personal touches are there to create a warm and welcoming feel. Thank you to my wildly visually talented, organized and caring interior designer Steph of Vadiba Interior Design for making this vision come to life!
